March 2011
Try Your Luck! BAC Leprechaun Hunt!

It's not just the Irish who are lucky at the BAC... YOU can be lucky too! On March 18th, we invited BAC members to FIND THE LEPRECHAUNS at our Monthly social.

There will be hundreds of hidden Leprechauns just waiting for our BAC members and guests to find for prizes. One lucky member found the BAC Pot O' Gold!

The Leprechaun hunt continued all evening whilst we played a new game specially road tested by your trusty BAC Board of Directors (Truly, we did try it out. And if we can figure it out, anyone can...) called Left-Center-Right.

Left-Center-Right is a fun, fast-paced dice game. 3 specially marked cubes determine where players distribute their chips as they compete to keep as many of their chips as they can. The last player with chips is the winner and wins the center pot. Everyone was asked to bring 3-9 quarters in order to play which made it a bit more, shall we say...interesting.

..... here's what actually happened!

Our members were all off to a good and even start, hunting leprechauns like professionals! Hundreds of Leprechauns were hiding all over the lounge at Friendship Lanes, and the crafty little imps were simply everywhere. In fact they were so sneaky, some of our members even passed by them several times and missed them again and again. Some were even capable of hiding in plain site, as witnessed by the dozen or so who were found hanging out behind the bar that went unnoticed by several of our members for more than an hour before Pat O'Brien finally spied them.

There was a bit of to-do with one shifty leprechaun who was hiding out at the pool table and having a bit of fun at the expense of our members until once again Eagle-Eye Pat captured it.

In the end, it was Pat who captured the most leprechauns and won the pot of gold at the end of the BAC rainbow. In this case, a pot of chocolate gold coins and some scratch off lottery tickets, presented to her by Nick Gower.

After the leprechaun hunt it was time to play L-C-R. The game was a big hit, something new to play and it went over well. It took Nick about 7 rounds before he finally won a round and he had to pay back quite a few quarters, but he did finally get the hang of it and everyone was rooting for him. Ah bless...

Enjoy the photos. Join us next month for "Darts For Dragons", our annual St. George's Day dart's tournament.

February 2011
Carry On Curry Night
Our Chili Cook Off was such a hit back in October that it was only a matter of time that we would have to have another culinary challenge.

This time we are pairing dinner with a classic movie on February 18th, presenting "Carry on Curry Night".
...

Did you know that curry is more popular than fish & chips in Great Britain? It's true!! On February 18th, everyone is invited to cook up a special Indian or Asian themed recipe, using their favourite ingredients, spices, level of heat and whatever else you wish to use to make your dishes extra special! (Please bring a side of rice to accompany your dish). Whether you fancy trying your hand at a curry, or perhaps a samosa, pakora or even a delicious naan bread or dessert. It's entirely up to you - Give it a go and join the fun.

The club will have poppadoms and chutney on hand. Special prizes will be awarded for best dish on the night. (You do not have to bring a dish to attend - come and be one of our "tasty" judges!)

Once we're all settled in, lower the lights. It's time to enjoy another of Great Britain's favourite pastimes... Carry On....! Can you guess which Carry On film we'll be watching??  Pass the popcorn, love!

..... here's what actually happened!
Let's start this saga with the curry was a HUGE success! We had about a dozen entries and side dishes to judge from our members and guests and they were all delicious. We had Chicken, vegetable and lamb curries and even a lamb curry pie! We have some seriously good cooks hiding in the BAC. At the end of the night, top prize went overwhelmingly to Lesley Moran in First Place, followed by Marci Gower in 2nd and Valerie Lynn in 3rd. Well done to all who participated and pass the Alka-Seltzer to everyone who judged! That was a LOT of curry!!!

As for the Carry On film, unfortunately, that bit didn't go as smoothly as planned. The mail order company didn't send the film on time (still hasn't arrived a month later - ta for nothing Turner Movie Classics, who have the most awful customer service!) so we went to our Plan B: Panic and see if a member had a film by chance. Ian Davis DID have a film, but it was in PAL format, but he politely suggested (as lovely Englishmen are prone to do) that a copy might be available at the public library. AND IT WAS! So plan C went into effect "Carry On Librarian" and Ian graciously drove down to Bonita to fetch us not one but THREE Carry On films for our Carry on Curry Night. Whew!

Who would have ever thought the sound would fail?

But, as we mentioned, the Curry was a HUGE success...

January 2011

We had exciting news to share with our members & supporters!

The BAC had been chosen by the very prestigious

British International New Game Organization

to introduce the latest and greatest in British themed cheeky entertainment! We'll be trying out their newest game on the roster at our January social. All we've been told is to have everyone bring a bag full of pennies to help out with the score keeping. Oooh sounds exciting and very mysterious!

It's all very hush-hush, and we are quite honoured to be given this opportunity to put this program together for our members and supporters, so be sure to grab some mates and join us at Friendship Lanes in the lounge at 7pm.

There will be multiple chances to participate in the surprise program all included in the price of admission.  Extra chances are available at only .25 cents a go, so please bring some extra pocket change. All for a good cause, and all that...

It doesn't matter whether you come to watch or play or just have a laugh and a good chat, the only thing mandatory is to have a good time.

..... here's what actually happened!

As reported, The BAC had been chosen by the very prestigious British International New Game Organization

to introduce the latest and greatest in British themed cheeky entertainment!

Once our members arrived, we were caught out when Valerie Hall was the first member to twig that there was no British International New Game Organisation and this was actually all a big ruse. We were in fact about to play BAC BINGO! With that bit of business out of the way and everyone with their pennies at the ready, BAC Bingo was underway.

This was no ordinary BINGO - Our grids for starters, spelled B*R*I*T*S instead of B*I*N*G*O with the categories B:Beatles, R:Royalty, I:Iconic Britain, T:Telly, and S:Sports. Each game card had the images under each category which would appear on the big telly as it was called out. All very high tech <cough cough>. Eventually we even had some winners!
